Free choice songs for April and July

So, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm having a really hard time deciding on songs for these months! I know a lot of you are NOT slackers like I am and already have them picked, and probably on CD's for your kids!

So, I thought it would help to "poll the audience" to see what songs you are doing for these months, and then I'll post the results.

For April, I think I've decided to do The Easter Hosannah (Children's Songbook (68 & 69). I guess one of my struggles is that I feel the words need to teach something and need to relate to the monthly topic. There was a song in the friend by Janice Kapp Perry, (1999?) called "I Love to Learn of Jesus Christ" that I thought about doing, but I can not find a recording of it to put on a CD for the kids (which I still plan on doing, once I figure out these months).

I would love any of your ideas, and I'm betting there are others out there in the same boat that I am!

  1. We're doing I wonder when he comes again for April and My Family is of God because I taught "I Lived in Heaven" and then the stake said they'd really like it if we did the other song instead. So I'm just doing it in June or July.

  2. For April we're doing "He Sent His Son," my favorite primary song and (I think) a good fit with the theme. Also, since we have both General and Stake conference that month, I'm hoping it is one I can teach quickly.

For July, we'll tackle "Teach Me To Walk in The Light." It seems to fit the theme, it's a song we should have in our repertoire, and alternating verses with the adults will add a nice touch to our primary program.

  3. For April we're going to learn "I Feel My Savior's Love," which I think is one of the best Primary songs ever written. It just seems like every kid out there needs to know that one.

  4. We are doing "I Feel My Savior's Love", and "He Sent His Son" for the two program songs. But we are also putting "Beautiful Savior", "He Died That We Might Live Again", "Hossana", "Daddy's Home Coming", "My Dad", and "I Often Go Walking" on the CD because we were asked to do a few Songs for the Easter Program, Mother's Day, Father's Day and another Musical Number in the future. I thought that if these songs were also on the CD it would make teaching them easier and hopefully a review or practice for some of the children.

  5. April: Jesus Once Was A Little Child

July: I've narrowed it down to Where Love Is, Teach Me to Walk In the Light, I Feel My Savior's Love or Love Is Spoken Here. I'm letting the Primary Presidency choose which one, but they haven't let me know yet.

  6. We are doing "He Sent His Son" for April and "A Child's Pray" for July! We felt each of these songs fit really well with the themes, and I just LOVE both of these songs! I'm so excited to teach them to the kids!

  7. I've had a hard time deciding the songs for these months too. But, the Stake asked me for the songs, so they can make cds for us, so I had to decide. For April I finally decided on "He Died That We Might Live Again" ...which I thought fit the theme really well and it also coincides well with Easter. I am actually going to start teaching it March 22...because of Gen Conf and also because I will be out of town for Easter. I am hoping this way the children will have it down and know it well for Easter...even though I won't be there.

For July I had no trouble choosing "I Feel My Savior's Love". I think it is a beautiful song, and one the Primary children should all know.

  9. We are doing "Beautiful Savior" for April and "The Lord is my Light" for July. I just felt passionate about these songs and they went with the monthly theme.

  11. Our little primary is mostly Junior and so we will be learning Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam. There are 2 verses, which will hopefully keep the seniors intrest, and all the junior already know the first verse. Then in July we'll be doing Did Jesus Really Live Again.

  13. Okay, so several of you are teaching "I Feel My Savior's Love." Me too - but does anyone have any great ideas on how to teach it? Thanks!
